Open 24/7, classic bagel shop. Family run business and always busy. The bagels are unique as they are broiled before baked. I recommend the hot salted beef bagel with mustard (most popular) if you are craving savory, and the bagel with nutella if you are craving sweet, and on Fridays definitely get the large warm challah for only 1 pound.
A great reasonable lunch spot with healthy, artisan food. If you're in a rush grab one of the premade salads, sandwiches, or soups. With more time, I definitely recommend custom making your own sandwich. Benugo offers a wide variety of breads, meats, veggies, and spreads so you can create your own personal sandwich. At some locations students receive a 20% discount.
Borough Market **
If you are a food lover, go here! It will be heaven! One of the largest and oldest food markets in London selling a large variety of gourmet foods from all over the world. It is split into 2 parts selling savory breads, cheeses, meats, sauces & spreads, produce, juices and desserts. Definitely come here hungry because you will sample a variety of amazing homemade food. Then venture to the lunch stands to buy an ethnically delicious meal. The lunch stands cover all cuisines- Italian, Indian, Caribbean, Asian, Mediterranean, to much much more. My favorite lunch spots are Soul Food (Carribean), La Tua Pasta (Itallian), Kappacasein (gourmet grilled cheese). Also sample the pesto spread at Borough Olives, soo good. Open Wednesday through Saturday, but beware it does get pretty busy.
A two-story Pop-up mall that has an eclectic mix of trendy shops, bars, and restaurants varying in unique cuisines. Offers outside and inside seating overlooking the young, hip city of Shoreditch. My favorite restaurants are: Falafelicious, Chop'd, La Catrina, and Thai & Lao Street Food.
Chop'd is a fresh and healthy salad shop that uses only locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. You have the option to create your own salad by selecting some of their seasonal ingredients and homemade dressings, or you can chose a premade salad. Besides salads, Chop'd also offers soups, stews, and wraps.
Cocomaya has a modern Parisian feel with hundreds of homemade pastries and delicious coffees and teas. They also have amazing gluten-free options. This quaint cafe will not disappoint. Stop by for a few pastries on the go or try their take on London afternoon tea. The seating area is limited so off-peak times are recommended.
Cycle Lab and Juice Bar
Great juice and smoothies! Made with all real fruit and fresh ingredients. A great healthy start to your day. They also serve crepes. I recommend the Acai smoothie and Detox juice.
A different, healthier take on falafel. Located on the 2nd floor of Boxpark Shoreditch, an outdoor eating area filled with small ethnic food restaurants. With the option between falafel or chicken schnitzel fill your box with the many different salads Falafalicious offers (pasta salad, aubergine couscous, olive salad, etc.) Top it off with some hummus, tahini, and their homemade vinaigrettes. Enjoy it with a side of pita and if the weather is nice, eat outside on the long benches.
Grilling Greek Food Cart
The truck travels all around London and serves great Greek inspired burritos. Greek tzatziki chicken with your choice of sides and salads wrapped in a homemade warm pita.
King of Falafel
If you're on the go, come here for a quick yet worthwhile falafel wrap. Located on leather lane (a street filled with ethnic food carts and restaurants) near the Holborn and Chancery Lane tube stations. The warm pita wrap is filled with two different seasoned Mediterranean salads, sauces, and your choice of falafel, chicken/lamb kebab, or roasted seasonal vegetables. Try to go on off peak hours, as there is always a long line during the lunch breaks.
Their motto is "Naturally Fast Food" and that's a pretty accurate statement. They have everything from a kale and peanut salad, to sweet potato falafel wraps, to Thai green chicken curry, and all of the dishes are marked with symbols to note if they are gluten-free, vegetarian, low-fat, and so on.
A cozy cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. L'eto Caffe is known for their handmade cakes, but it also serves fresh salads and mains that can either be eaten in or taken to go.
A trendy shop, which specializes in organic, artisan, and sustainably, sourced food. Inside the shop there's a cafe upstairs, butchery downstairs, as well as juice bar and coffee shop. Perfect for a quick and healthy bite.
From Israel born chef, Yotal Ottoloenghi. Ottolenghi specializes in healthy and fresh Mediterranean food. These shops opposed to his Nopi restaurant are much more suitable for a quick meal. There is a huge display of many different salads, protein dishes, and beautifully crafted desserts great for on the go or to eat in. The menu is split into 2 columns to order cold dishes from the counter (salads, etc) and hot dishes from the kitchen. They recommend 2-3 dishes per person. Great for sharing and make sure to try one of their homemade and delicious desserts. The dishes change daily so don't hesitate to come back more than once a week!
Create your own falafel salad bowl, or falafel pita sandwich, Lots of different salads, ingredients, and sauces to choose from. The falafel is very good, definitely up to par with what you will find in Israel. Great for a quick bite for lunch.
A chain restaurant located throughout London. The menu offers many different options to prepare your pizza, from classic to calzone to romana. There is even a section of pizzas under 500 calories with a side salad placed in the middle of the pizza. Great gluten free options as well (gluten free pizza dough). I recommend going here with a big group looking for a fun dinner out but not too expensive.
Pret A Manger
Quick and natural coffee and food shop. Serves tasty coffee and prepackaged snacks and lunches for on the go. Modern and clean atmosphere making it a great spot to do work or catch up with friends.
Soul Food- Borough Market
My favorite lunch spot at Borough Market. Soul food offers savory, simple Caribbean food that is full of spices and flavor. I always get the Jerk chicken with the aromatic rice and peas. Made right in front of you so it's as fresh as you can get.
Tibits offers a great range of carefully sourced seasonal vegetarian dishes influenced by Asian, Indian, and Mediterranean cuisines. You simply turn up and find a table, no booking required. You then grab a plate and walk around the food boat consisting of more than 40 options. You chose exactly what you want and pay by weight. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
A great quaint cafe with a few locations throughout London. Timberyard offers specialty tea, coffee and artisan food including original pastries, salads and sandwiches. Very comfortable seating with WiFi making it a great place to relax with friends or enjoy a quiet working space.
Pan-Asian style menu consists of ramen, teppanyaki, curry dishes, and donburi. They also serve fresh juices. Wagamama is a good dinning spot if you are looking for a very reasonably priced, casual, Asian meal.
If you are craving a quick sushi fix and on a budget, this place is for you. Wasabi has a modern and clean design and falls under the category of naturally fast food. Offering an assortment of sushi, Japanese bento dishes (various chicken and rice bowls), and soups.
